Gasshukus (literally translates into “staying together at a lodging house”) are essentially training camps for karate-kas to come together and train under high-level instructors to further their martial arts education. In the JKR, to be a certified instructor, senseis must attend at minimum two gasshukus in a calendar year. In the USA, three gasshukus are held in the spring (May), fall (September) and winter (December). During the gasshukus, the Yudanshakai (black belt association) also meets to discuss the state of the organization and address any actions items such as changes to the karate curriculum.
